Full Version: I just turned my in-laws on to David Cook!!!
David Cook > David Cook > All About David Cook
Jenney
My in-laws are here for a visit, and yesterday during the car ride I had some of my husband's jazz CD's playing for them. Then my CD with all David's AI performances came on (I have a 6 CD player). I said, "oh, now time for some of MY music".

They have never watched American Idol, so I was explaining how the competition worked as we listened. They both commented on what a good voice he has.

They are HUGE Phantom of the Opera fans, and when the CD got to Music of the Night all talking stopped. My mother-in-law said, "I got chills down my spine listening to that, it was so good!".

As we pulled into the driveway, "Little Sparrow" studio version was playing. They said, "let's sit in the car until this song is over." And we all sat there in silence and listened reverently!

As I sit here typing this morning, my father-in-law just came in the room and said "I can't get over how beautifully he sang Music of the Night, I can't get it out of my head"!

How cool is that? These are people who love 1940's music, and they were blown away by David. I think his popularity will just grow and grow as more people are exposed to his music!

Yeah, I wasn't sure what they were going to think, so I didn't hype it up, didn't even let on what a big fan I am, I just let the CD start playing. I let them draw their own conclusions, and they love him without any prompting from me!

Just confirms my belief that he is absolutely awesome, and not just to a few hard-core rock fans, but to people with all different musical tastes.

LOL! That reminds me of when I was a teenager and my parents called my music (Beatles, Led Zeppelin, etc.) "noise". But now they like a lot of Beatles stuff, and my dad plays Stairway to Heaven on the piano. I don't think he likes the original version quite yet. They are both 74 now too. I bet if they listened to DC's performance of Music of the Night, they'd like it. That would be sort of the hook to get them to listen to him. I asked them if they were tuning into Idol this spring, but they were watching Dancing with the Stars, which I guess aired at the same time. Oh well... maybe you can teach an old dog new tricks from time to time.

Yeah, I think non rock-and-rollers would still like MOTN, Little Sparrow, Hello, some of the other more ballad-y type songs (probably not Hungry Like the Wolf, LOL). Also, if they like the Beatles, they might like Eleanor Rigby or Day Tripper.

That really is very cool. It just proves how versatile David is and how he crosses over so many boundaries. He really is "the whole package"!

Yeah, sometimes here in my little Cookie bubble I wonder if I'm just deluded or if he's really as wonderful as I think he is. So it's nice to have confirmation from the "outside", LOL.

I completely agree. I just listened to MOTN Studio Version, it came on the playlist I have of DC. I closed my eyes, turned it up and just listened. It really is amazing! He is sooo talented. The looks and personality and long list of other admirable traits are just icing on this wonderful cake called David Cook! Ohhh, that just makes me want a bite of DC!!! (Sorry, I kind of lost myself in that description, he is too irresistible!) tongue.gif

Yep. He's definitely sexy and smart and articulate and all that, but first and foremost, is that voice. I can just get transported listening to the voice. There's just something to his vocal quality and style that is riveting.

I've grown more and more fond of the studio version of Little Sparrow. The expressiveness of that is just entrancing.

How ironic that he sang Music of the Night, where the phantom tries to seduce Christine with his voice. Only no mask needed in this case to hide that handsome face.

Jenny, that's so cool! Glad they liked it, and yes...he really is that good. In and out of the bubble! Isn't it great?!!!

I love it when people I know dislike him (for what ever stupid reason) hear one of the songs on my CD's and they're like "wow, that's a great song! Who is that??" hehe I go in for the kill! "DC...and you already said you liked it..so there! No taking it back!"

I know...I'm not 2. But how can they NOT love him!??

Hah, they think they hate him and then when they hear his music and don't know it's him, they like it? That's funny! Just proves how right we are. tongue.gif
