David Cook > The Other Stuff > American Idol (General)

Single out in August

To be honest I didn't expect this so soon. I thought they'd annouce Michael Johns first (I'm almost sure they will sign him too).
I'm really happy for her. I don't listen to country music but I wish her all the best. She seems like an amazing girl.

With the Davids, KLC and most probably MJ i think this year really was the most talented ever.
I really hope they sign Brooke too. It would make me happy.

Congratulations to Kristy and I hope she is successful!

A lot of Cookie's fans who post at MJ's blog are ticked that she gets to release her single first but what they don't seem to remember is that Cookie's winning single is still doing well and he's only got the rough cuts of his 7 songs he's worked on completed going back to the interview he did with Ryan a couple weeks ago. I think it's great that they signed her. Now this explains why she talked about moving to Nashville with her soon-to-be husband Andy. I am happy for her. Don't be surprised just in case her album is released first. This happened during season 5 with Pickler. Her album came out on Halloween in 2006.

Another thing the fans are ticked about is the fact that 19R is giving out so much info about the release date of her album and single. I really do think they should have let Cookie and Archie release their first singles before her but as I said, that's not the way things worked with season 5. laugh.gif I'm just hoping we get a single from Cookie before the album is released. unsure.gif

Great news for Kristy! She did mention in her interview that she's looking for a place in Nashville and that she's been too busy to start the wedding planning. She's in a different genre from Cook and Archuleta...no competition for attention there. Remember that album sales don't work like voting on the show...there can be more than one winner there...much bigger pie.

The 19 machine is interested in one thing....to make money. As many artists they can do that with, they will do it. I have no problem with when things get released. It is not a competition. My best regards to Miss Cook. While I wasn't that blown away by her singing on the show, she is a cutie and, I bet the Nashville scene will love her.

exactly.
and having other idols releasing music will actually HELP David sell records. country fans would purchase Kristy's single and then see a link/recommendation on the site to David's album because of the Idol connection when they may not have otherwise heard of him.

I was surprised that they signed her actually. I mean, not that she should not be since I honestly believe Kristy's good in her genre. It's just that I was expecting Carly, MJ, Brooke or Jason to get signed before her. But hey, I wish Kristy the best of luck! wink.gif

Speaking of MJ, I remember watching one of the tour behind the scenes interviews he had with Ramiele and he said he's going to record tracks for his album in between tour dates. However, there hasn't been any news as to which label he is signed with. So does this mean he's not under 19?

We've been told over there that Foster does have a label of his own. He's still under 19 until the first 3 months after the finale unless that rule is changed. Technically you are still tied to them till the AI tour ends. My suspicion is along with some of the others who have posted in that thread this morning is that we may have seen the last of the 19 signings with Kristy. Most feel that Jason and possibly Brooke will not be picked up by them and they are probably right. If MJ is not going with 19, and suspect he isn't, we won't hear anything about it until possibly the last of August or early September.

No one wishes KLC any ill will, I think everyone is just surprised that of all the contestants she was signed and so quickly. She had some really dreadful performances. Some of the worst of the season. Since she was not voted off as quickly as we all expected she clearly has her country following.
Country has its niche market and I doubt she can expand beyond that.
As for MJ I believe they tied to 19E until the tour is over and cannot sign nor negotiate with another label until their obligation to 19 E expires. It would seem unlikely that the legal dept at 19E would exercise that option to protect themselves. MJ is either anticipating signing with 19E or he is just talking. In which case he should be careful.
With Brooke and Carly they have records out there available for purchase that are not burning up the charts. that does not bode well for them signing.

It just strikes me as odd that MJ will be allowed to record on tour when he is not with 19. I know Foster has AI connections but the whole thing seems kind of strange to me.

I said this in the other thread, but I bear no ill will towards KLC. She can go and have success in her genre and it will hurt no one. I will never listen to her music, but I don't think her becoming successful in a very specific genre is going to hurt David at all.

I hope Jason and Brooke get independent record deals. I would buy a new album from either of them in a heartbeat.

Great!!!
I'm gonna wait for her album.
I like her voice too.

I just wish the arrangers would make things right for her. esp that Kristy's tone is a bit low..

I like her to sing country songs tooo...
Jesscookie
Kristy's really pretty and Kelly Pickler has enjoyed success even though she didn't do THAT well on AI. so it is not that surprising...

though I wonder will marriage make her take it slow in her career? hmm

I can see why KLC's album may come out before David's. David wants to write his own songs and participate in the creative process. As for Kristy, they'll probably just give her a list of songs that may be potential hits, which can make things go a lot faster. Also, David's schedule is loaded because he's the AI winner, but Kristy's got nothing going on other than the tour, and then promoting her album.

I hope someone signs Michael Johns. I would buy his music too. Probably not running out to the records store and standing in line the way I would when David's record comes out, but I would buy MJ's first album whenever I get around to the record store. And if it's good I'll get the next one.

Good luck to Kristy. I was just saying yesterday that maybe she should forget about singing and go for an actress career. Doesn't have to be Oscar worthy heavy weights, but she's cute and young and I can see her landing roles on TV series if the singing gig doesn't work out.

Wow, go Kristy! im really happy for her, actually. despite what some others think, she has a really pretty voice, and i believe she'll go as far as she wants in the Country industry of music.

i also hope that Carly and MJ get signed as well, because they are also very talented, and i would love to buy their albums as well smile.gif

Good for KLC! I'm a little surprised that 19 signed her, considering how the judges seemed to be hostile and expected her to fail every week. I'm not even a country music fan, but I always thought KLC got a little bit of a bum rap. She has a decent voice.

I'm a huge Beatles fan, and I even liked her countrified version of Eight Days a Week. It was different and I thought it worked. I *really* don't understand the all the hate on that performance, even from Paula! I admired KLC for consistently sticking up for the arrangement, even as she got roasted for it.

Honestly, there weren't any in the top 10 that I actively disliked, though some were more to my taste than others. But they all had talent.

Congrats Kristy! I wish her the best of luck!
