Thanks for posting the link. I hate what they said about Cook. You could sure tell the author was an Archie fan. The only positive thing that was said about Cookie was when he mentioned Adam. Oh well, you can't win them all, huh.

Third review :

"I've read some reviews from some of my fellow press associates today. A couple commented that Idol winner David Cook came off as too cocky for a man who couldn't fill a Glendale bar last year. Well it's true, Cook did come out on stage with cocky attitude blazing, strutting like a man who knew he could own the world and controlling the crowd with a gesture of his hand. But this reporter says; Thank God! Who the hell wants a limp-wristed rockstar who winks and giggles and looks like a kid at Disney World for the first time? Yes this is American Idol, home of the sugar and Brady Bunch cheese infested group numbers, but Cook won this competition because he refused to let Idol castrate him. His balls are firmly intact and like a real rockstar should, he's showing them to the world. So for me,cocky was exactly what he needed to be. Sure he could've stood and blinked in awe and pulled the Sally Fields moniker of 'They like me, they really like me,' but David Archuleta already played that role and cocky crushed him by 12 million votes."

I know. So I guess I'll just include all the good with the bad errr cocky reviews :

Here's another review from USA TODAY!

The David C. section, and the show concludes

“I bought this camera for the sole purpose of documenting what I'm expecting to be the coolest summer of my life,” Cook announces, before having the house lights turned up and turning his lens on the audience and giving a shout-out to newly married Ruben Studdard. Then what bedeviled Brooke befalls Cookie: “I lost an ear (monitor) but I’ll keep it out.”

He grows grateful -- “We are just 10 people who got crazy lucky” –- and sings about how he’s having the Time of My Life –- for more poignant reasons than music superstardom, it turns out. “I got great news today,” he says. “My brother’s tumor has stopped growing!” Wild cheers. “Thank you, guys, from the bottom of my heart.” He dedicates the Foo Fighters' My Hero to his brother. “How loud can you guys get?” Very loud, it turns out.

After he jogs around the stage, a very dark and very pregnant pause ensues. Then, like Michael Jackson at the Grammys oh-so-many years ago, there’s a theatrical entrance: Cookie solo at the stage’s edge, standing in front of a literal smokescreen (psychedelic smoke images are billowing on the wall behind him) -- just him, his guitar, a mike and Billie Jean.

Finally, the group finale, Rihanna's Don’t Stop the Music, for which the Idols have tweaked or overhauled their outfits. Carly’s in sparkly tight satin, Syesha’s in Rihanna-ready booty shorts and Brooke is in some Stevie Nicks-esque, cape-like floral robe. Michael’s draped in one of his scarves (purple velvet), while Jason seems to be winking -– or is that smirking? -- through the whole act.

After the Idols leave, after the lights go up, Cookie briefly returns to the stage and hands a T-shirt to a fan. Girls cram the edge of a metal balcony above. A piece of paper flutters down to where their No. 1 Idol is striding through. He catches it, borrows a pen and signs it as the chorus of “We love yous!” grows. -- O.B.

ya know, i gotta say.......cocky??..........david cook is used to playing in front of a small group of fans who have been described elsewhere as "rabid" which means they honestly love his performances. he was ,from what i saw in the videos overwhelmingly happy to be there. to be doing what he was by god f**king BORN to do. he was just havin a GREAT time. lovin every minute of it. why should he behave any differently in front of 100 people or 10,000 people? i am just so happy that he is so happy.

EXACTLY!!!! He's a ROCKER and a mighty FINE ONE at that!! Go Cookie! You Rocked the House!!!
David's Belle
Can I get an AMEN, from the videos I've seen he looked like he truly was having THE TIME OF HIS LIFE, Its a ROCK SHOW, it should be Cocky I LOVE that man, and I'm glad his BALLS are still intact after AMERICAN IDOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
RKC_Erika
Cocky - seriously these people don't get it, cocky would've been him basking in the applause and strutting around like a cock in front of his henhouse. David wasn't that at all. After a month + of him roaming around the country singing to large crowds and getting huge receptions - the man was CONFIDENT - just like he was ALL season long during Idol...but now he's got the title that allows him to let everything out. Even though he performed covers, Cook behaved like each song was his own. His ripping away on his guitar during MY HERO and BILLIE JEAN were some of the sexiest things I've seen in ages.

Michael Johns did a fantastic job and sounded and performed like a professional, but David Cook was a freaking superstar and he sent the crowd into hysterics...cocky singers get booed off of the stage. The roars of the crowd before/after his songs was staggering. The Archie fans might have been higher in pitch quality but the Cook fans in the crowd OWNED the stadium. When Cook left the stage after MY HERO and the lights were off the entire stadium thundered w/ folks screaming for an encore. I've been to concerts w/ seasoned performers where the crowd wasn't as single minded as this one was...they had one desire only - more David Cook!

This was/is only a flavor for things to come. If Cook's solo album is as good as his first independent ANALOG HEART (or better...which will most likely be the case) I expect Cook's solo shows to sell out. Anyone who would call him cocky is either somehow feels threatened by him or doesn't like him. Fine, whatever, doesn't matter because his fans shout and scream a different tune. They know why they bought their tickets...and it wasn't to see some watered down wanna be rocker. That stadium was pretty calm and sedated through most of the concert, once Cook came on stage the energy of the place felt to me like how it was when I've seen Springsteen or U2 live - it was electric. I think we all know that David's uber confident stage performance is an extension of his inner artist coming out for in every interview that he gives he's a very considerate, humble, and kind person. Exactly how is this guy real?
Angelique
I totally agree with the other posts. So when has being a CONFIDENT Rock star become a problem???!! That's what drew me to him in the first place! Can't wait to see DC in Columbus later this month!

It's clear from the context of the review that the reviewer prefers angelic choir boy Archie. Which may be fine and dandy, but it's the kind of thing that may hamper Archie in the real world. Already there's reports of him being unhappy with what the record company expects out of him and wanting to write on his record which he may or may not be allowed to do. Maybe he really doesn't want to sing boring ballads the rest of his life.

With Cook, you know what you are getting and to some people modern rockers will always be suespect because they don't like the genre. The critics in Utah are going to be pretty bad I presume. However, this guy was not that bad and at aleast he was upfront about his biases. Even he could not get away from the awesomeness that was Billie Jean.

Well said!!!

Honestly, I thought David's performances are like FOREPLAY! They turn me on!!!! If I saw them as cocky, I won't be moved by them, I would be turned off to be honest! But they're NOT cocky at all, DC's just COMFORTABLE in his OWN SKIN/CONFIDENT! Which is of course one of the reasons why I LOVE HIM! wub.gif Sigh! wub.gif

The first reviewer might be right if it were any other Idol contestant, but you have to remember. David Cook has put in some solid years performing, he's worked very hard and he's paid most of his dues already. He's got a lot of performance moves that he's already perfected, and you can tell he totally enjoys every minute of it. This is what grabs the audience - not just his talent, but his enjoyment of what he's doing. I can't wait to see him when I go to the Idols concert in September.

The concert was absolutely amazing!

All of the idols were in great voice and looked like they were having fun.

The place was really loud and had a diverse group of people (in age) which was great.

This is definitely the most talented Top 10 ever! They all got to do their own individual style of songs which was awesome! The crowd really cheered for Brooke White (She is from AZ, and she deserved it). She was amazing...Carly Smithson and Michael Johns also performed really well and are natural performers...I plan on buying their albums as well...Kristy Lee Cook, who was not one of my favorites, was really, really good and I love her rendition of "God Bless the USA". She was also a great performer...very sassy...

The Davids of course, were the best part of the show ...

The screams were extremely loud when Syesha started to introduce David A...I think I am still deaf from the young girl behind me...he performed very well...even though I voted for Cook, I do appreciate what an amazing talent David A is...he is going to have a long career if he works hard at it...

Then David Cook came on and the screams were even louder, partially because I was including my own...He rocked it out and I CAN"T WAIT for him to be on tour doing his own songs...he is a true performer...his voice is like none I have ever heard...it sent chills down my spine...

If you read any articles criticizing the show or the performers, please don't listen...judge for yourself and go... because if you are a true fan of American Idol then you will enjoy the amazing talent of these emerging artists...

I read an article that said David Cook was cocky on stage, which was absolutely ridiculous...he is confident and there is a difference...he performed like he has been in front of a crowd his entire life...he really got the crowd pumped up and then he announced the good news about his brother and the crowd got even louder...

I really hope all his fans keep supporting him, going to the tour concert, buying his album(s) because I know I will be...I will never forget the first time I saw him live, as I know it won't be my last!

thanks for this, RKC_Erika!

YAAAYYY!!! i agree david's not cocky...he IS just confident because he knows and likes what he's doing! and like that other article said, he stuck to his guns and refused to be cast into the same mold as other american idols. also, he's just often compared with shy & relatively inexperienced archie...
