OK, I hope you won’t all think I’m a COMPLETE nut case, but I wanted to share this. It’s a little long, sorry. (Maybe I should have put it in the “Fan Girl’s Thread”)
I had to switch cars with my Father-In-Law last night. He needed to go to the airport to pick up family coming in for a reunion (they are gonna steal my Cookie Time – oh well, that’s another topic) anyway we have a bigger car so we traded for the night. I was fine for about 5 seconds then I realized I left my Cookie CD in my car. I didn’t have ANY Cook music with me! Feeling rather depressed I hit the play button on my Father-in-Law’s CD player (just curious to see what he listened to) and “On My Own” from Les Mis started. Here are some of the lyrics. Could she be singing about our Cookie?
. . . but now the night is near,
and I can make believe he's here.
Sometimes I walk alone at night when everybody else is sleeping
I think of him and then I'm happy with the company I'm keeping
The city goes to bed and I can live inside my head.
On my own
Pretending he's beside me
All alone, I walk with him till morning
Without him
I feel his arms around me
And when I lose my way I close my eyes
And he has found me
. . . and all I see is him and me for ever and forever
And I know it's only in my mind
That I'm talking to myself and not to him
And although I know that he is blind
Still I say, there's a way for us
I love him
But when the night is over
He is gone, the river's just a river
Without him the world around me changes
. . . I love him
But every day I'm learning
All my life I've only been pretending
Without me his world will go on turning
I love him
I love him
I love him
But only on my own.
I think we all understand Eponine’s love for Marius (except she actually knows the man she’s in love with and most of us haven’t even met David). The song is beautiful and tragic and full of the emotions we feel for David each day (and night). Needless to say I was bawling like a baby when the song ended. What do you think?
OK do I get an award for Drama Queen or something?
