who can tell me what happen in idol tonight?

I agree with the judges in that it wasn't his best performance, but I think it was good. The 'Give Back' palm thing was awesome of him, too.

Yeah, it wasn't his number one, but I loved it....and my mom went "Oh my...well that's sweet!" when he showed his palm...

My dad HAD to be the pessimist and say "He doesn't look like an American Idol....." and then my mom went "...but he's a great singer!" and he went "...but they look for the good looking ones....I think that KLC is the prettiest...SHE looks like an American Idol..."

So basically, my mom is awesome, and my dad is just plain WRONG! angry.gif

I liked it. I agree it was not his best, but I love that song. The palm thing choked me up. I literally awed and then teared up. I think this was a very emotional performance for David, and I think he did a great job.

It just wasn't long enough for me. Just as DC was really getting into it and starting to engage the audience, poof, it was over. I will admit I thought he started a little rocky for the first few seconds, but then he got into it, especially once he started walking into the audience. However, I do have a complaint about the backup singers -- I thought they were too loud and were drowning him out!

I believe, though, that the iTunes version will be so much better because DC will be given the chance to do the whole song and really get into it.

The "Give Back" on the palm at the end, though, was fantastic!

Well, you can tell your Dad that it's voters like yourself and us that determine who the true American Idol is. smile.gif

Don't worry...I'm sure my Dad will have a lot to say about the performance as well. I have no idea what he thinks right now because he's out of town, but we should getting a phone call here pretty soon with his opinions on 'the Irish chick' and 'that little kid'. He doesn't know their names. happy.gif

THE BACKUP SINGERS! angry.gif oooo they got all my nerves rofl
and yes, this was SO short...I wanted it to be the whole song....I know that wouldn't be possible, but still...

he was just showing America again his immensely talented self, and then he had to sing the last note....the "give back." on his hand was amazing.....did anyone else notice he started singing forcefully when he sung "she wish she never heard of cancer..."? It was like he was making a point....

I want to hug him and give him cookies to try and make him feel better.... sad.gif
Rita
You could tell, it looked like something was really bothering him. =//
lovewillkillall
I really did feel like something else was on his mind. When Randy and Simon critiqued him he looked like he took it very personally indeed. I think this song was very important to him and he felt as though he had let himself down.
He looked so sad though and i agree the singers were drowning him out.
For me though, I felt an emotional connection, like he was REALLY singing, not just trying to win a competition.

We all need to vote extra hard for him this time around.

When I first read through the lyrics and saw that line, I was worried about how DC would react to it. And, yeah, that's the line where his performance came ALIVE! You could tell that that line meant a lot to him and you could feel all the emotion and, dare I say it, ANGER he put into it. It was like a catharsis. The performance really took off after that line and DC really left me wanting more -- and that's the mark of a wonderful performer!

Glad I'm not the only one that got a little teary!!! David is such a good person - I think a lot of us should learn from him!

You could definitely tell something is or was bothering him. Like others have said this is an emotional week for everyone. I still thought He did amazingly well. Even on a bad week he outshines almost everyone else (Michael and Jason did their thing so I have to give props). You can tell how passionately he feels about this cause and the "give back" on his hand was so LOVE! wub.gif
*InlovewithDC*
I really loved it. Yes, it started out a bit weak, but once he got to the chorus it was great. What did he say with Ryan? No one has uploaded that much yet. I just saw the performance and the judges critiques. WE STILL LOVE YOU COOKIE! At least Paula got it. He definitely had an emotional connection with the song and I felt it.
Mary
he did amazing tonight! thanks for getting the downloads up so quick! the video one wont work for me though sad.gif is there any other sight?

The pink bracelet on his hand is for a young fan who is fighting cancer just like his brother. I am sure his mind was with them both and others facing the same battle. David Cook is the real deal people. He deserves this more then anyone. He is loyal and knows his music can help offer comfort, encouragement, and all of the other things he gives people with his talent...or "skill" as he would say. He is so deep in every way...I cannot wait for him to make it big...which he will no matter what...I liked tonight just because it was so packed with deeper meaning. He is so genuine.

i am getting thru every single time i call! lets vote guys
Eric K
Did anyone else notice how he raised his voice when he sang "never heard of cancer". This was a very emotional song and 90 seconds barely did it any justice. Would love to see them do longer versions of the songs later in the competition. At least 2 minutes.
CRZYASH5787
THe backup singers were WAY TO LOUD!!! and so was the music...not only for David but for all the performances!!! THEY HAVE GOT TO GO!!!

something was def. bothering him....I can feel it. The performance def. had be teary eyed!!
hescookin
The boy can SING!!! period. What Simon and Randy said made me mad. Made me call in even more votes. So there.. Simon and Randy. We love him despite what you think!!! angry.gif

I'll have to listen to it again. I did get a good feeling when he was singing it, like there was something, I'm not sure, just a good feeling. I didn't like it, my friends didn't like it, but it still made me feel good about him.

I didn't like the white jacket. White was sooo last week tongue.gif

I'm not sure about you guys, but the way he sings (like the way he hits some notes) is always the same. He tilts his head to the side a little and sings out the note...every single time. I don't know, maybe that's just his thing, but it's getting a little repetative for me.

I know what you're saying, but I don't mind it at all....that's just how he hits his strong notes, I suppose....

but yeah, there was something wrong tonight....like he seemed disconnected with the audience, but we all were connected, because we could feel something wrong with him...

David, if you read this, I hope everything's alright! I despise worrying about you! sad.gif

Yeah, I noticed that. His mouth always gets this triangle shape to it. I actually get a kick out of it, but I'm easily entertained. Right before he hits a strong note, I'll whisper "Triangle face" and there it is! laugh.gif

Man, I'm weird. blink.gif

Definitely his weakest performance yet.

I have to say, as a longtime fan of Our Lady Peace, I don't know what he was thinking choosing this song. I agree that it has an obvious and powerful message and all that, but the vocals are way too hard to pull off. Raine Maida has an incredibly distinct voice, one that few people can match. It would have been great if he tried to make his own arrangement with altered vocals, but he kept it close to the original, and... that wasn't the best move on his part. Just an honest bit of criticism...
RunKidRunOMG
omgosh he looked like he didn't feel good...i hope he's ok o . o ...well, i have to say, im pretty much obsessed with him, but that wasn't the best preformance...it was def'natly his worst. i mean, he looked like he didn't feel good, maybe thats why, and then they have all those back-up singers...it kinda ruined it...but, yeah, i hope he doesn't end up in the bottum three for that preformance... if he ever ends up in the bottum three, im gonna cry....

mypurplesocks
it was his weakest yet BUT i think that there's something that could change the whole thing entirely
1) the arrangement was kinda messy to me and kinda confuses me, i know it's the original but when you cut it and what not, just doesn't sound right somehow
2) the back-up singers were too loud
3) David's low tone should be better than that, i mean i've heard many of his songs and he could reach that range perfectly but today it was another story

idk what's going on his head today but i kinda saw the sadness in his eyes, i mean he picked out the second verse and we all know how it affects him right?

but to tell all of you the truth, the performance grew on me after playing it over and over

VOTE! VOTE! VOTE! EVERYONE!!! i can't vote sad.gif i wanna save our Cookie so so badly
Bluechild
You know, David may not have sounded his best tonight - for whatever reason, but his performance was more inspirational to me than any other. Hearing him sing that verse and seeing Lyndsey's bracelent so prominently displayed just got me crying.
I can actually see why he chose this song. I'm looking forward to playing this over and over on my mp3 player at work tomorrow.. and I can't wait to hear the studio version.
SzTheDay
I agree about the backup singers!!!!!!!!!!! Maybe it's because they doubled the number?? I am hearing impaired and I thought it was me and when I turned the volume up it only got worse. They acoustics in this new theatre are better though.

Oh, and I don't get the pompous comment from Simon. I really didn't see anything pompous in his performance. If anything, he seemed a bit insecure/maybe distracted.
CRZYASH5787
I think he was just tired...I mean I bet the Idol Give Back episode that they taped had to be very exhausting and on top of doing a performance night...I mean that is craziness...THey all look tired

someone make the back up singers stop!!! ahhh!! Last time I checked this was American Idol for the contestants not the back up singers....if I wanted to listen to a choir I would go to church more or something

Like I've said many times before, something wasn't right.....I'm not asking him to tell us what's wrong, but we can tell, David...something troubled you tonight....

the verse in particular was so moving, and I know several reasons why he probably picked it....

and there was such a sadness in his eyes....it was the saddest look I'd ever seen on his face....and it hurt me to see it....I could tell there was so much going on those eyes, that he wasn't completely 'there', I think....when the judges critiqued him, he had this glassy look in his eyes, as if he KNEW he let someone down or something...

...but yeah, I'm truly hurting for him....I only hope that by Thursday, he'll be alright....it pains me to see him so sad.... sad.gif

I'd have to watch it again, I just saw it but I think Simon got his pants in a wad because David got off the stage and came down in the audience. For a split second it crossed my mind maybe Simon thought David, or any other contestant, had not "earned" the right to act like a "real" performer? WTH? Or was it the hand sign? I'm not sure. It all happened so quick. Its not like he was being an ass or anything, that's just what singers do. I thought "how cool" he is moving. God the drama. I thought he did a great job. All Simon did was just fuel all the DC is arrogant trash for the next week, blah, blah, blah, yadda, yadda, yadda. dry.gif

You said it perfectly. I think his mind was just somewhere else tonight. I think it's been that way the last two weeks, actually. Poor guy. I really hope he's OK. I'm worried about him. He looked really tired and sad and... I don't know. I wish I could just fly out to LA and give him a big ol' hug. sad.gif
Bluechild
Others have wandered into the audience before, though. None as well as DC. Of course, I'm probably a little biased. Anyway, .. how I would have loved to be in that audience. rolleyes.gif
CRZYASH5787
*sigh* I just watched the Eleanor Rigby performance....remember how happy he was after he performed?? Poor thing...how so much has changed since then it seems....no one tops our DC. period.
StephyDee
awww yeah...he was like a happy little kid there...now it's like that kid was forced to skip childhood and go straight to adulthood.....it's sad...sad.gif

...but as long as David knows that he has people here that rooting and caring deeply for him, then I hope he's alright!

We love ya, David! \m/ ROCK ON! \m/
Bluechild
Yay.. I'm not a newbie anymore! And, I spelled bracelet wrong in a previous post. I hate spelling things wrong.
Anyway - I like seeing him happy too. *Praying for comfort and peace for David, his family and others on this board who are going through a stressful or difficult time*

I gotta say... I wanted desperately to believe that cookie could turn this song into something wonderful like he has with others, but I was crushed at this one. The song itself is just bad (don't kill me OLP fans). It's over the top emo pop, not the rock vibe we all know and love from David.

That said, I still voted like crazy, because David is a rare gift to us all. I just wanted to hug him he looked so depressed!
meggy
i personally was absolutely thrilled that he did an Our Lady Peace song. they have been a favorite of mine for a long time now, and i would certainly never expect to hear them on American Idol. i just really wasnt expecting that out of David Cook. i thought he was going to pick some lame butt rock song (no offense), but he genuinely shocked me, and i think he did very, very well.
kat3rine
i sooo love him tonight.. i dont agree with Randy and Simon. i think he is still great and one of the best!

Please vote for him!!

He looks so sad. There must be a lot going on his mind right now. i wish i could comfort him.. sad.gif and take away what's bothering him.
SzTheDay
I agree. I thought, maybe, with this being "inspirational" he might do something softer and emotional - think Peace of Mind. Did you see the post about the backup singers overwhelming the performers? That may be why it seemed so "not David" to me???

Don't worry Leona Lewis did EXACTLY the same thing, the big notes she always put her head to the side so its in profile, and she won.
