You know, David may not have sounded his best tonight - for whatever reason, but his performance was more inspirational to me than any other. Hearing him sing that verse and seeing Lyndsey's bracelent so prominently displayed just got me crying.
I can actually see why he chose this song. I'm looking forward to playing this over and over on my mp3 player at work tomorrow.. and I can't wait to hear the studio version.

I agree 100%. David is connected to the show and the people in a more personal way than anyone else is. I hope that pulls him through. He's a wonderful person.

*sigh* I just watched the Eleanor Rigby performance....remember how happy he was after he performed?? Poor thing...how so much has changed since then it seems....no one tops our DC. period.

Those where the days smile.gif

He'll get his spark back, the problem is he can't afford to let down his guard this late in the game.

Pick a song we ALL love David and you'll be fine.

(case in point: Billie Jean)

He looked like he was gonna CRY! Seriously! sad.gif

he was AWESOME, but seriously....Randy and Simon are BLEH for saying that....angry.gif

...there was something wrong tonight...idk how I can tell, but it's like he's got something else on his mind....

I'm agree I almost cry when looked him like that! poor David sad.gif

I really don't think it was his best performance... but, I still loved what he did. The beginning was a little rough for me but it got better after. I thought he sang great, even though he looked like something was wrong. But it's inspirational week, and he's singing a song from his favorite band, and he was probably thinking about his brother, and after the recording of IGB he must have been tired last night so it can explain his condition. Maybe he just got too deep in his emotions... I don't know...

Overall, I still love him and I really hope he's gonna stay cuz he deserves it! Love you David!!!
rootortoise
i said everything i wanted to say in the "pompous" thread....but i wanted to say.....even though this wasnt his best performance, he still put a lot of his heart into it, and if he goes this week it would be a complete travesty....no one, except his buddy mike, matches even close to his talent.

i dont think he would go...........i hope not......*worried now*

vote vote vote!!! if only i could!!!!

i think his studio performance will be better.....the minute and a half they have on stage just isnt enough!!
nix
just managed to see the clip. aww he's so sweet, he looked so humbled at the end. I hope he stays in, please people vote on my behalf im in uk!

David's performance was so emotional last night it just broke my heart. He wears his heart on his sleeve, and after all he felt about it and put into it, it was hard to watch him get crushed by Randy and Simon. But he will not go home.

And THANKS for the download! smile.gif

Like I've said many times before, something wasn't right.....I'm not asking him to tell us what's wrong, but we can tell, David...something troubled you tonight....

the verse in particular was so moving, and I know several reasons why he probably picked it....

and there was such a sadness in his eyes....it was the saddest look I'd ever seen on his face....and it hurt me to see it....I could tell there was so much going on those eyes, that he wasn't completely 'there', I think....when the judges critiqued him, he had this glassy look in his eyes, as if he KNEW he let someone down or something...

...but yeah, I'm truly hurting for him....I only hope that by Thursday, he'll be alright....it pains me to see him so sad.... sad.gif

i know what you mean, it pains me to see him like that but i can't help but to watch his performance over and over because i felt that emotional connection between him and the song

also, at the end of the show where the camera pans out to a wide shot of the whole auditorium, i could see that DC was distracted and he was kinda looking at the ground with thoughts racing

i hope he'll be fine *sighs*

He is tired people....they are all tired. They have been working straight since last Thursday through Sunday, then having to perform three songs on Idol Gives Back and then walk around and learn a new song on their ipods. That is a lot of pressure, a lot. They are simply exhausted. You can't throw away 7 solid performances for one bad song....come on really. Fans can be so fickle sometimes. Davic Cook looked like a star up there on Idol Gives Back. He was totally being show cased.
idolgrump
It hurt my heart to see him at the end of the performance while the judges were criticizing him. He looked very tired, vulnerable and sad. I felt really bad for him. I can't imagine giving my best shot after working like a fiend then have the judges tell me it was pompous. If anyone is pompous, it's SIMON. HELLO.
luvindc
I have a gutsy feeling that he might be in the bottom 3 tomorrow and I hate b/c I won't be able to see it at all. Stupid work...maybe I'll call in sick, haha. they'll know b/c i've been talking about david cook every single day when i work. i'll be the one asking did you watch last night, did you vote for david cook?
EleanorJean
The more I watch this performance, the more I can't help but sing along. I think it was awesome. smile.gif
Cassandra
I had the song stuck in my head right after his performance! I don't even think I've heard it before either... and then I got it stuck in my friend's head the next day! lol. It was great. biggrin.gif I think he did a pretty good job with it. Thanks for the audio Travis!

poor david cook. dont worry darling, i'll comfort you tongue.gif. something was definately on his mind the other night, and i'm worried!!!! when the judges were talkign to him, he had that faraway look in his eyes, and it seemed like he was really a million miles away. and he looked so sad! i wanted to cry sad.gif
but anyways, i love david! and i think he is a SEXY BEAST! and i still think that even though his performance wasnt as good as it usually was, you could tell he had a deep emotional connection to it.

david, to cheer you up, this is my song for you! wink.gif
and if you are reading this(and i pray to god you're not) i hope you feel better and quit being sad! we all love you hun.

Just bought the studio version of Innocent... the background vocals are MUCH softer and the song sounds sooo much better. The only better studio version is Billy Jean.

the studio version is amazing!! im listening to it all the time

arrogant = smug = pompous

I wonder what's the next word Simon is going to use to describe David...they all mean the same.

Hmph Simon! I used to love you. But now... I'm starting to really hate you for giving ideas to people that David is an arrogant person. sad.gif

By the way, I took David's challenge last night, just for fun. None of the synonyms describe David...some describe Simon cool.gif

When I first read through the lyrics and saw that line, I was worried about how DC would react to it. And, yeah, that's the line where his performance came ALIVE! You could tell that that line meant a lot to him and you could feel all the emotion and, dare I say it, ANGER he put into it. It was like a catharsis. The performance really took off after that line and DC really left me wanting more -- and that's the mark of a wonderful performer!

Why were you worried? Not only did he choose the song, he also chose to do that particular verse.
I LOVE AMERiCAN IDOL
i didnt think his performance was that good but i like the song that he picked and the studio version sounds amazing. he is the best one on this show and i really hope he wins:)
plebejus`argus
I really don't get the judges, he was amazing and you could really tell how much that song meant to him too.

Then again,
...he could come out on stage and smile for a minute and 20 seconds and I'd still faint at the sight of him.
smallville
I couldn't understand what the judges didn't see in his performance. Innocent was one of the most heartfelt performances by DC, especially lyrically. The studio version is so much better though. I love it when he'd do the falsetto in "I". Nevertheless, DC's performance didn't deserve the negatives from the judges.

I'm loving the studio version of this...and just about every other studio version that he did...OT: the studio version of Billie Jean is just jawdropping!! Chris Cornell, sorry, it was your idea but DC did it so much better rolleyes.gif

I'm glad to have seen a new comment on this particular song - - the studio version is infectious and I love it. But even the live version . . . it's raw and emotional and I think very powerful. I wasn't familiar with the song before and it's really gotten in to my physche. On top of everything else he's done, he's exposed some new music to a lot of folks.

We are all innocent . . . David's the guilty one for making us feel this way!! wink.gif And really, no complaints.
