I know I'm the only person who's even marginally interested in this, but "Time of My Life" made another big jump on this week's Sirius Satellite Radio Hits 1 Weekend Countdown, moving up from #24 last week to #16 this week (Hits 1 is a Top 40 format and their countdown is based on listener requests via email, phone calls and an online survey.)

To introduce the song, the announcer, Spyder Harrison, played a snippet from DC's Sirius interview:

Hits 1 continues to play TOML steadily every 2 to 3 hours.

I'm very interested in this too! I'm constantly looking to see how Cookie is doing and what people are saying and I'm excited for him because, was there any doubt? He seems to be doing quite well!!! Yea!!!

I know in the grand scheme of things, this is just a small chart/countdown on a service that only 620,000 people across the country listen to, but I think it's interesting because, first of all, it's a Top 40 format and DC is doing extremely well here. With Media Base and Billboard, TOML seems to be doing best on Adult Contemporary stations, and not too swift on the Top 40 stations, but Sirius Hits 1 seems to be bucking the trend.

Another thing that is interesting is that this countdown is based solely on listener response, not sales and not at the whim of the program director. So the fact that TOML keeps moving up the countdown, and with some pretty big 8 and 10 spot leaps, it is indicative of the popularity with listeners, and that popularity keeps growing. And it all can't be just a bunch of diehard Word Nerds calling/emailing incessantly -- it has to be "normal" (laugh.gif) listeners who are enjoying the song, too, maybe people who didn't even watch AI.

And it's a national audience, not just one station in one region, so I think it's a great reflection of DC's popularity across the country. Plus if a David Cook song with "magic rainbows" in it is doing so well, imagine how well a real David Cook song will do!

Just to update this week's chart, TOML is up one notch to #15. Not a big jump like the last two weeks, but at least it's still upward movement. smile.gif

Updating the Sirius Hits 1 Countdown for this weekend, July 19/20:

Oh well. TOML slipped from #15 last week to #26 this week, but songs have a habit of jumping up and down on this chart due to listener input/mood swings, so TOML isn't out of the running yet. Hits 1 still plays TOML regularly every 2 to 3 hours or so during the week.

Plus I got my listener survey for Sirius channel 9, The Pulse, which plays Adult Top 40 from the 90s through today (no rap or hip hop, thank goodness!), and they were promoting TOML, so that's a good sign!

Any way you look at it, TOML has done (and continues to do) phenomenally well, better than I think anyone could have ever predicted.

Updating for the weekend of July 26/27:

Yay! TOML is up again! It had dropped from #15 to #26 last week, but it's up 10 spots again this week to #16, sandwiched between Jonas Brothers and Flo Rida! What a diverse playlist! laugh.gif

They even segued into TOML by playing a clip from DC's on-air interview with the Hits 1 morning crew back at the end of May.

The other thing I noticed this week is that Hits 1 is now playing TOML on more of a 1 1/2 to 2 hour rotation, up from the 2 to 3 hour rotation its been on. In fact, one day this week there was only 1:15 between spins -- that's as often as they play the #1 songs (like "I Kissed a Girl" or "Money Honey.) They're also still featuring TOML during their "Ear Poppin' New Music" promos, and there's a morning show promo running throughout the day featuring DC. I uploaded it here:

So TOML is still holding its own among all that teeny bopper Top 40 stuff.

Update for Aug 2/3rd: Up and down again at #23 for its 9th week on the chart.

Update for Aug 9/10th: Down one to #24, but still being played consistently!

Update for Aug 16/17: Way back up, probably bec of Olympics to #15!

Update for Aug 23/24: Still holding strong at #19!

Update for Aug 29-31: Still holding on at #22 (and higher than Jonas Brothers!)

Update for Sep 6-7: Slipped to #36

Update for Sep 13-14: Down to #41

Update for Sep 20-21: Just barely holding on at #45. It's probably the end of the road, but it's still a great 16 week run on the chart, doing better than anyone ever expected! It's truly the Little Magic Rainbow That Could!!! And just think, "Light On" will be charting within the next few weeks and I'm sure it'll do even better!

TOML history on the Sirius Hits 1 Countdown: #41, #39, #34, #24, #16, #15, #26, #16, #23, #24, #15, #19, #22, #36, #41, #45
