Full Version: Line dancing to David Cook's Billie Jean
David Cook > David Cook > All About David Cook
blue_sky78
I was out after work tonight and was waiting for my cousins to show. For the Singaporean peeps on here, I was at SingPost, Paya Lebar MRT, big open area in front of the building, you guys will know what I'm talking about here. wink.gif There was music blasting. I wasn't sure where it was coming from and I also wasn't paying much attention to it, I was talking on my cell WHEN........David's Billie Jean started playing!!! I still didn't know where the music was coming from, just that it was loud and almost like surround sound. Of course I started eeeeking!! laugh.gif I was excitedly asking my mom who was on the phone "Can you hear that?"

I started walking towards the building to get inside and that's when I saw it! A whole big group of people line dancing to Billie Jean! blink.gif Just to put things in context here for a bit, line dancing is a pretty popular social activity here in Singapore, some even call it a "sport/form of exercise" lol so yeah there are often these kinds of gatherings. It kind of burst my eeeeking moment laugh.gif I mean LINE DANCING to BILLIE JEAN??? COME ON!!! laugh.gif

*spoiler alert so don't read any further if you don't want to be spoiled for your concert*

That's one of DC's signature moments on the show PLUS its now his ENCORE performance on the tour and they're line dancing to it! *smacks forhead* No offense to anyone who line dances but it kind of doesn't chart on the coolness factor... lol.

It was still pretty incredible hearing David so loud and in surround sound like that tho. Almost concert like. smile.gif Okay, it just hit me that the only way to get the full version of David's Billie Jean is online, which means someone from that line dancing group MUST be a fan. Alright SG DC org'ers, fess up, which one of you all is it? laugh.gif
LoveStoned
I never thought of Billie Jean as a line dance type of song....lol. That woulda been hella fun to watch! laugh.gif
blue_sky78
Exactly, its NOT! laugh.gif I should have filmed them on my cell and uploaded it for you guys to watch... lol.. trust me, it was weird, but they were really into it. *smacks forhead yet again*

OMG they are still doing that? I know they have those Line Dancing sessions every friday night. SingPost is one of my clients and I occasionally go over to that building for work. I've heard it before too, and I couldnt believe my ears! haha..

When I first heard it, I immediately checked to see if my earphones was on, then I realised it wasnt. And then I thought I was hallucinating (you know, the constant listening to him such that songs are now playing in my head without me realising it). But then I realised I wasn't hallucinating and that they were really blasting Billie Jean out in the open. I think this was sometime back in April (before he even won!)..

It was ridiculous but it brought such a huge smile on my face somehow.. hey blue_sky78, maybe we should go find out who's the DC fan in that group.. LOL.

OMG!! blink.gif Billie Jean used as a line-dancing number? That's so ... weird.

blue_sky78, you really should have filmed that one - it will be a sight to behold. LOL. laugh.gif
Agent Krycek
Okay, well that's just made my top 10 of the bizzarest things I've ever heard - not into line dancing myself, but can't for the life of me figure out how you would do it to Billie Jean blink.gif biggrin.gif

If it's a regular thing, can I request you go back and film it for all of us, we need to see this biggrin.gif
missymarsie
I think I should be going to SingPost this coming Friday for work. I shall see if they will line-dance to Billie Jean again.. wink.gif
Enamored by DC!!!!
laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif

i was actually clicking on this hoping there was a vid!!!!! this is just wild!!!!!!!
scf
OMG I just burst out laughing after reading that. What a sight! Yeah you should have filmed it!

Okay, SG DC-org'ers, it looks like we've been assigned a mission! laugh.gif And since missymarsie has heard it before, its very likely they'd use the song again. Come to think of it, they have choreographed steps to each song. Anytime a song starts, they just KNOW what formation to be in and what steps to be doing so obviously steps were choreographed for Billie Jean. huh.gif laugh.gif I still can't get past the weirdness factor, David's Billie Jean = Iconic breakthrough performance vs line dancing to that very same song.... blink.gif Say what? laugh.gif

Sidenote: What on earth am I doing talking about line dancing on a board for the American Idol at 1.30 in the morning! *smacks forhead for the billionth time*

CookRockLove
Yahhhh...Billie Jean isn't really a song you line dance too... laugh.gif

YES! That would be a hilarious thing to load up to YOU TUBE! There's not really a dancing beat to Billie Jean, so I cannot even begin to imagine how this group of folks came up with a line dance!! laugh.gif

Yes, that would be amazing!!

OK... I remember (vaguely) people line dancing to Michael Jackson's version of Billie Jean, but I just can't picture anyone doing that to Chris Cornell's version. You HAVE to get video!
sesot
Oh, I wish you had filmed it. I bet we would all have had a good laugh over that one. With the exception of variations of the Electric slide, i always thought of line dancing strictly for country music. I guess I was wrong.

haha I love missions. Ok, I will definitely be at the SingPost building this Friday, but whether or not I'll be able to film the line dancing thingy is another matter, as my senior just told me that we might need to work late these next few days.

blue_sky78, do you remember roughly what time you heard them playing Billie Jean last week?
The other time in April, I heard it around 8-ish. I'm not sure if they'll play it at around the same time. If they do, maybe I can go downstairs for awhile around 8-ish..

Any other Sgporean cookie gonna be there as well this Friday?
Cookey's Fan
They will be line-dancing at around 8pm?! blink.gif I'll see if I can try to catch a glimpse of that, when I knock off from work. tongue.gif

However, I can't guarantee if I can film anything there as my resources are pretty limited. LOL. huh.gif
annie702
LOL...i don't see how that version has a line-dancable beat, but OK.
BTW, i heard the original Billie Jean at a wedding last weekend (that version has a danceable beat) and it started a discussion of why the song won't die (well, it's a great song...even the original). question was when it came out...i said '82...others argued '84 on thriller...i insisted '82...now how did i know that? LOL!!!

Hey CF, I think the line dancing starts even earlier.. usually from around 6-ish I think? But I was just saying that the last time I heard them using Billie Jean it was around 8-ish. So I'm not sure if that's when they'll play Billie Jean again.

Ah, I see. Thanks for the tip, missymarsie!! smile.gif

Looks like I've gonna check it out on the day itself. wink.gif I'm intrigued.
blue_sky78
Yeah, last Friday, I got there at about 7.45pm and music was already blaring, only at that time, I had NO idea where it was coming from. laugh.gif And missymarie is right, it was CLOSE to 8pm when Billie Jean came on.

I'll try and see if I can go there again this Friday after work. I'm not sure if I have to work late but if I don't, I'll swing by on my way home, since it seems like some DC-org'ers want to see a video of this. wink.gif

SG DC-org'ers, if any of you guys are dropping by, look out for weirdos filming the line dancers!! laugh.gif tongue.gif

LOL. What a coincidence. laugh.gif I was there at 6:45pm that day, straight after work. smile.gif

You were there at around 8pm? Billie Jean was played sometime between 7:55pm and 8:10pm. blink.gif Never mind, there's still this coming Friday - who knows, they may line-dance to Billie Jean again. Just try to be there early. smile.gif
blue_sky78
I think I hung around till about 8.15pm but didn't hear the song come on. Then I got hungry and went in search of food. laugh.gif I might have just missed it by the time I got there.

Ah well, you already got a recording of it. Good going! smile.gif Still boggles my mind tho, the song and line dancing just doesn't go but I guess they have modernized line dancing, they even use hip hop music. blink.gif laugh.gif
