When DC said that he wants to win an Oscar I think he was only 1/4 joking. He does have an acting background.
I find myself often comparing David Cook with Dane Cook, the comedian. Dane is an awesome, extremely popular stand-up comedian. (If you have never seen him, run, don't walk, to YouTube to check him out!) Yet he has starred in many motion pictures, both comedies and dramas. He shows amazing versatility. This makes me feel confident that our DC will someday wow us with his acting performances.
And why wouldn't a movie producer cast him in a leading role? He has millions of fans built in. The box office numbers would be overwhelming. And who wouldn't go the theatre to see him again and again and again? And of course we'd have to purchase the DVD when it comes out, right?
So, I for one cannot wait until his music career is established so that he can branch out into acting. Is anyone else with me?

I'd like to see him win some Grammys first and then a few Oscars. He has the talent to do both.

Yes, fore sure, first a couple of American Music Awards, for song of the year, artist of the year, album of the year, best newcomer of the year, best ..... and then some Grammy's and then an Oscars for best movie soundtrack of the year, if Celine Dion could palm them in so can our David

.
And the winner is .... David Cook!!! (and the crowd goes wild)

If David gets into films and gets the right part he could certainly be in contention for an Oscar. There is a long history of pop singers who transitioned into acting and then went on to be nominated for (or win) Academy Awards. From Bing Crosby to Jennifer Hudson, and including Bobby Darin, Doris Day, Cher, Peggy Lee, Will Smith, Diahann Carroll, Frank Sinatra, Judy Garland, Liza Minnelli, Barbra Streisand, Burl Ives, Diana Ross, Queen Latifah, Bette Midler, and a couple I'm probably forgetting. If you have a talent for reaching people's hearts with your voice, that means you are acting the song, so you already have that talent--you just need a great role to unleash it. I would love to see David in contention for an Oscar.

Wow, Couldn't come up with a better post if I were getting paid for it. I even had to go get this for you:

Thank you!

only one problem: He'll have to come up with a different name to join the Screen Actor's Guild because there is already a "David Cook" registered thereon.
Maybe he can just stick his middle initial in there or something.

He definitly has some acting chops. I would love to see him in a movie role like Johnny Depp in The Secret Window. And you're right bioguy, there have been a lot of musician turned actors and vice-versa. For example, on ONE TREE HILL, Bethany Joy Galeotti is first and formost and actress, but she has also had some success as a musician/singer/songwriter(She has TREMENDOUS talent, check out her cover of Enation's
Feel This). So most definitly, he can do both. That man can do almost anything! lol!

Thanks for the kind words, DC! And Cookiefyme, you're right about Johnny Depp. I didn't include him only because he didn't really have success in music, so we didn't see him switch fields. I'm sure he was devoted to his music while he was trying to get it off the ground, but thankfully for us, he turned to acting and found what he was really born to do.
I am one of those DC fans who is still hooked on Hello--to me it is a brilliant acting performance in a tiny amount of time. If he can do that, he can tackle most acting challenges they might throw at him. I firmly believe that with David, we are watching the kind of career unfold that will be long, varied, and legendary, so why not an Oscar?

I could definitely see him branching out into acting. After he wins an Oscar, I would love to see him both sing and host SNL. His stint on Best Week Ever was hilarious so we know he can do comedy well.
