Ok, so I'm a huge fan of Rent. I've seen the movie a ton of times and actually got to see the play in NY this past December and it was absolutely amazing. I love listening to the soundtrack and was super excited last night when Ryan said the Idols would be singing Seasons of Love. I was pretty disappointed in the performance. Kristy did an awful job on Joanne's solo. She doesn't have the right voice for it and she hit the notes wrong. Syesha would have been better. David A. also messed up the lyrics in a way that the line didn't make sense anymore. Of course my biggest complaint is that David didn't get enough of a solo With all the talent that's on Idol right now, I expected the song to be a lot better. Maybe I'm setting the standards too high, but what did everybody else think?

I'm gonna have to agree with you. I am OBSESSED with Rent so I got pretty giddy when Ryan announced that they were going to be singing Seasons Of Love, but it call kind of fell short for me.

I totally don't understand why they didn't give Syesha or Carly Joanne's solo. Kristy? What the hell.

And as soon as they announced that they were going to be singing SOL, I thought for sure they would give DC the part that Archuleta sang. It's like the most important part of the song and the most vocally powerful male part. I am thoroughly angry at Archie for messing up the lyrics. ;klufkjhdsf.

I was torn between watching IGB and Criminal Minds, and I watched Criminal Minds. I missed the whole Seasons of Love deal and had to catch it on YouTube. Joanne's solo definitely should NOT have gone to Kristy. They need someone with a really powerful voice for that. Syesha or Carly would have been better.
And WHY did they give Archuleta that solo? If David had it, he would've, first of all, gotten the lyrics right ( AHEM. THREE TIMES NOW.), and hit that nice note for the way that she died (cause yes, Archie, people die several times x]).

Eegads! I had totally resisted posting anything about Seasons because I felt I was the only one who would say I was dissappointed by the IGB attempt. The notes just weren't there. And, the singers just didn't seem connected. Am I over analyzing this or just way to picky? I have to admit though, I've seen Wicked 3 times - listened to the soundtrack more times than I can count. If anyone had tried to sing Defy Gravity like Idina Menzel I probably would have turned the channel.

I couldn't believe they gave Joanne's solo to Kristy either. She so doesn't have the range for it. I think Syesha woulda been awesome on it. Or Carly, she did a great job with the end of Shout to the Lord. But Kristy? No. God, I was about to puke.

And when David A. sang 'times that she died' instead of 'way that she died', dude was like 'wtf? that doesn't even make sense.' And it didn't. Our David shoulda had that solo.

Bad, bad choices right there. They could've made it so much better.

Yeppers. I'm a HUGE Renthead and was annoyed with both KLC & David A. When he messed up the line i was grumbling up a storm. I'm a freak about things like that. LOL. Overall, it was a bit disappointing. Def not enough Cookie

SOL - is my fave song from Rent - and I was disappointed in the job the Idols did.

I was so psyched when he said SOL was the song they were singing, and I started listening to it, and I went "Oh.....okay...." because it didn't seem right. KLC looked like she was struggling with a part that, at this stage of the competition, should've been easy as hell. You could see it in her face.....Archie just made it final that the song was screwed up, because he messed up some of the most important lyrics in the whole song, and he didn't have a connection when he attempted to sing them. I agree, like I first did when I first commented about it that night, that David C. should've gotten it, because he would've nailed it, and it would've saved the song....but alas, our wishes didn't come true....now, if DC sang the super Joanne falsetto high note at the end, I would've just laughed and it would've made my night, but I don't know if even David's capable of that......he'd sound like a girl and he'd be screaming his head off.....it's funny to imagine it....try it...you'll giggle...
