I just saw this video mentioned on the Rachel Maddow show and it is a true star-studded treat. What a blast! Don't miss this one! We're talking Jack Black, John D. Reilly, Andy Richter, Maya Rudolph, Neil Patrick Harris, Kathy Najimy, for starters.

Just wanted all you music lovers to know that a new music/talk show is coming to TV - and this one looks to be very exciting. It is called Spectacle and Elvis Costello gets a chance to be both the talk show host, musical director and performer. Turns out that Elvis is a very knowledgeable musical historian as well as an incredibly talented guy and a hoot to boot. The show is co-produced by Elton John and his parter, David Furnish, and Elton will be a guest on the premiere show.
It sounds incredibly promising to me as it will be a full hour and the only reason Elvis agreed to do it was that it won't be oriented to performers hawking their latest projects as most shows are. Musicians will be able to perform for longer than the standard 3 minutes (Elvis says if they play for 7 mins, he'll just reduce the amount of talking), and he'll be able to interview musicians outside the current mainstream. He told the general manager at Sundance, "I want this be to a show about genres of music that may have been forgotten, about artists that haven’t been in the spotlight and people performing in a way they haven’t before." Instead there are more likely to be call-outs to semi-obscure musicians and discussions of the origins of the singer-songwriter. Each show begins with Mr. Costello performing a song written by or inspired by his guest. Sounds so refreshing to me. Some of the musicians already booked are Tony Bennett, Lou Reed, Rufus Wainwright and Smokey Robinson. Bill Clinton is scheduled to appear on the Dec. 17 episode. It will air on Wednesdays on the Sundance Channel. Post here with your impressions. I'd love to discuss it here with all of you.

Just want to remind everyone to leave a review after you purchase your iTunes copy of 'Light On'.
Hopefully, most everyone here will give the song 5 stars. And remember that the reviews are for folks considering purchasing the song. The people reading the reviews might not know anything about David or his music. Getting all fangirly about David won't convince anyone to purchase the song. Telling people what it is that makes you love the song just might make someone want to lay down their 99 cents. Post here after you've reviewed and tell us what you said if you like!

It features vocalists as diverse as Whoopi Goldberg, Macy Gray, Forest Whitaker, Herbie Hancock, Joss Stone, Cyndi Lauper, Jason Alexander, Barry Manilow, Colbie Caillat, Joan Baez, Sergio Mendes, Margaret Cho and Pamela Anderson. Hi all! My name is Ayela and I currently live in Bellingham, WA. Loving David Cook, voice and all, and how he's handling the whole AI mess/machine.
Thanking Andrew and the Gods and Goddesses, wherever and whomever they might be for connecting David up with this show. The paths are always what you least expect but always a crazy ride! David is totally making this season watchable for me. He brings much needed creativity, intelligence, strength of character and a healthy dose of 'whatever' to the whole proceedings. He turns this thing from being simply a manipulating image fest into something approximating art. Who would a thunk it? Anyways, I am grateful for it and wish for David all the success he desires. |
