All in all you could definitely say I really enjoyed my little adventure in Music City, and though I am definitely a west coast girl, would go back in a second! I have a whole lot more to talk about, so much going on ! Oh and don't forget to support my friends, both of the David's have records coming out this month... I can personally say that they are both such great guys, and amazing talented in completely different ways, and I truly hope they both are able to be extraordinarily successful with their records, I'm gonna pre-order them today!! I love how her blogs really take you through what she's been up to and I really hope things work out for her.

"With his single "Light On" just starting to impact radio, and a debut album expected to chart big when it's released next month, is it any wonder David Cook would need a venue the size of a football field for his first video? On Oct. 16, the reigning American Idol and his newly assembled band took to the field at L.A. Valley College to film a performance clip for "Light On." But while the stadium vibe may have felt a bit like the Beatles at Shea, surprisingly, there was no audience in sight. Rather, the overnight shoot focused on Cook, who's by now well-versed in the art of emoting for the cameras, and was purposely light on extras and volume, due to the school's proximity to residential areas. Despite a handful of complaints from residences in the nearby Valley Glen neighborhood, the video went off without a hitch. Cook arrived at 11 p.m. and shot mostly solo footage for the first three hours, while his bandmates tried to stay warm in a makeshift trailer compound where they fully absorbed the cliched Hollywood adage, "hurry up and wait." Keeping Cook toasty, meanwhile, was girlfriend (and TV Guide Channel personality) Kimberly Caldwell, who accompanied him to the shoot. After a couple of wardrobe changes, the band joined in and pounded their way through the song for more than a dozen takes. All instruments had to be muted during filming, but that didn't stop director Wayne Isham (Bon Jovi, Metallica, Britney Spears) from yelling to turn the track up louder, nor did it hinder Cook from belting for real (as opposed to lip-synching). By daylight, things were starting to wrap and Cook was finally let go at 6:30 a.m. Fortunately, he had the next day off, but there's little rest for the weary in Idol-land. Soon, Cook will be off to New York for Saturday Night Live and a slew of other TV appearances." I'm glad he got to sing with the track instead of just lip-synching, because that can look really bad sometimes (although i'm pretty sure if he had to lip-synch, he wolud probably make an art out of it

"...He's here to shoot the video for "Light On," the first single from his self-titled album, which hits stores November 18. And though he realizes the video is a fairly big deal (it's directed by Wayne Isham, the guy behind Metallica's "Enter Sandman" and Britney Spears' "Piece of Me"), Cook will freely admit that he's rather starstruck by the entire process. Which is odd, considering he's the star." "...And that includes "Light On" — a song that was co-written by none other than Chris Cornell and one that has already attached itself to the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart. It's one of Cook's favorites on the album (along with tracks like the piano-laden ballad "Permanent," a "heavy riff-rocker" called "Bar-ba-sol" and "A Daily AntheM," a song he wrote about his brother, Adam, who is battling cancer), though he'd be lying if he said a lot of that didn't have to do with Cornell's involvement." Go watch the interview!!

David Cook's "The Time of My Life" was that rare "American Idol" victory anthem that forged past souvenir status into a bona fide career-breaking cross-format hit. The first "legit" single from his full-length debut (Nov. 18) makes it clear exactly the musical recipe Cook intends to make his signature: Collaborators are all name-brand rockers, from producer Rob Cavallo to writers Chris Cornell and Brian Howes. He certainly does his part, with the most aggressive, growling and howling vocal we've yet heard from the talented singer, offering a newfound machismo in his lower register. Melodically, there's no question that this bullet is heading right for the brain, where the only thing stickier than the chorus is Cook's appreciably sweaty performance. Like Chris Daughtry before him, here's an Idol who is bound for true rock cred, while accessing the show's popularity to equally indulge a pop base. "Light On" is right on. —Chuck Taylor That's probably the best one yet. |
